What’s it like being married?

Last Saturday we hit our 6 months married milestone! I’m sure once the years add up 6 months will be a distant memory, but I thought now would be a good time to look back over the last few months and think about how married life has been.

Well, in case anyone has been living under a rock for the last 6 months, we’ve been in lockdown for a lot of our newly-wedded bliss. I’ve been working from home, and my husband has been on furlough for the last 4 months. So, apart from the couple of months it took to change my name on everything (just my passport left to go), I don’t think we have really had the chance to notice any difference in our ‘normal’ life.

It took me a couple of months to let everything sink in from the lead up to the wedding. 2020 threw some difficulties at us, not just the issue of planning a wedding during a global pandemic! Even just over one week prior to our wedding, Boris announced he was halving the guest lists from 30 to 15, so it was a crazy time for us. We both loved our wedding day, and are so glad we chose to go ahead with it, (I will do a post soon to give details on how we went ahead), but are also both so glad we also have our reception to look forward to later this year when we can celebrate with the friends and family that couldn’t be with us on the day.

We have celebrated some moments for the first time as husband and wife; our first Christmas, New Years Eve, Valentine’s Day, but I am looking forward to just enjoying going back to our day to day life but as a married couple. I’m also looking forward to preparing for the next stages of our lives, as we search for our first home, and prepare to grow our family. One of the (many) reasons we went ahead with original day was because we did not want to let COVID postpone our lives, and the main thing to us was being able to get married, we could always party later!

Obviously this is a completely personal opinion and different for each couple. No one could have ever seen this coming and whatever each couple chooses to do is right for them and their situation, I have so much admiration for all of the couples that have had to postpone, I cannot imagine having to do this.

The last six months haven’t been without stress, however it is an amazing feeling when you are facing it together as a married couple. As we’re coming out of lockdown, I’m excited for what we have upcoming for the rest of the year as we set ourselves up for our future; I’m changing jobs next month and we’re looking for our first home.

Did you feel any different after getting married? Are you getting married and have any expectations?
